Deerskin River
The Deerskin River is a great little Brook Trout fishery which our chapter has spent a great deal of energy to restore and maintain in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Northwoods Trout Unlimited volunteers cut back alder, opening the canopy in hopes to create more grassy banks. With the cut alder, we create large brush bundles to help narrow the stream, increase the speed of the water and deepen the runs. Afterward this particular workday, Aaron Nelson, WDNR, electroshocked the reach. The results proved that there is a healthy natural reproducing brook trout population!
